Why page speed matters

Every second a page takes to load costs attention. On a slow mobile connection, many visitors leave before the first image appears.
Pages are ready before you ask
Pages are rendered once and served from a cache, so most visits never wait for the database. When an editor publishes a change, only the affected pages are refreshed.

Images in the right size
Every uploaded image is stored in several sizes, and the browser downloads the one that fits the screen. Images further down the page load only when the reader scrolls to them.
Fonts served by the site itself
Fonts come from the same address as the site, with no requests to third-party servers. That is faster, and better for privacy.
